The Talk of TROY – ”Biden’s Visit to Selma & International Women’s Day” – March 10th, 2023

President Joe Biden spoke last weekend on the anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Selma, Alabama. And TROY journalism students were there to cover his remarks as he spoke about peaceful civil rights activists who were beaten by state troopers while marching for the right to vote. Host Marissa Lacey reports.
And, in celebration of International Women’s Day, Troy University is bringing awareness to women’s issues in the arts. The Alabama Humanity Alliance sponsored two events at TROY, as Producer Emily Mosier reports.

The Talk of TROY – ”Inspiring Business Students & African-American Literature Read-In” – February 24th, 2023

This week, TROY alumnus Derek Ellington is encouraging students to ‘Do What Trojans Do.’ He recently delivered a speech in the Sorrell College of Business, as Producer Emily Mosier reports.
And, it’s Black History month, and that means Troy University’s English Honor Society Sigma Tau Delta has hosted an annual read-in highlighting African American authors. Students and faculty read at the event, and Producer Jaelanne Thomas has the story.

The Talk of TROY – ”’The Promise of Living’ & The Mental Health Initiative” – February 16th, 2023

Troy University recently received a $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education. And, as Producer Emily Mosier reports, it may help more Alabama educators become licensed mental health counselors.
Can everyday life be considered art? The photographer whose work is on display in Troy University’s International Arts Center says yes. Producer Jaelanne Thomas has this report on his exhibit, “The Promise of Living/The Tender Land.”

Bernard Harris became the first African American to walk in space in 1995, and as Troy Public Radio’s Jaelanne Thomas reports, he was recently the keynote speaker at this year’s Kappa Alpha Psi annual scholarship breakfast at Troy University!
And, dragons are often depicted soaring through the sky, blazing a trail of flame! But, a Troy University grad student has found a new, less flammable, species of dragon, deep underwater. Now she gets to name it, as TROY Public Radio’s Emily Mosier reports.

Troy University has a new Senior Vice Chancellor for Advancement who has always aimed to go above and beyond! Brigadier General Richard Boutwell’s Air Force career included flying as a member of the elite Thunderbirds squadron, as Host Marissa Lacey reports.
And, Troy University is hosting the John Robert Lewis Leadership Conference! The namesake of the conference is a former congressman, famous for his leadership during the 1965 Bloody Sunday March for Voting Rights. Producer Emily Mosier has the story.

The Talk of TROY – ”The New Television Manager & The Library Comic Collection” – January 27th, 2023

Troy University’s television station TrojanVision has seen a changing of the guard. And the newest member of the team is a familiar face, as TROY Public Radio’s Brendan Bryan reports.
And, can comic books be educational? Well, Troy University’s main campus library is now offering graphic novels to boost literacy and inclusiveness for TROY students, as Producer Jaelanne Thomas reports.

The Talk of TROY – ”The Yellowhammer Film Festival & ’A Song of The South’” – January 20th, 2023

Troy University’s Rosa Parks Museum is hosting a new, panoramic exhibit, “A Song of The South.” The work highlights the past and present of the Southern experience, as Keajah Lomax reports.
And, at the second annual Yellowhammer Film Festival, four TROY design students won awards chosen by judges who work at studios like HBO and Netflix. Film fan and Producer Emily Mosier has this report.

The Talk of TROY – ”Montgomery Campus Dedications & The Speech Tournament” – November 18th, 2022

The Student Success Center brings tutoring services, academic and career counseling, and student study areas to a single location: the third floor of the Rosa Parks Museum in Montgomery. And there were a few other dedications on this day of celebration, as TROY Public Radio’s Conner Howell tells us in this report.
The Hall School of Journalism and Communication hosted a speech tournament, open to TROY students, on October 27th. And a few students walked away with more confidence… and scholarship money, as TROY Public Radio’s Jaelanne Thomas reports.
