Gov. Kay Ivey speaks to Girls State delegates at Troy University

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Tuesday morning Alabama Governor Kay Ivey visited Troy University to speak with delegates of this year’s Alabama Girls State session.

During her speech, Ivey spoke to the ladies about Girls State and the endless opportunities that stem from it. Ivey says the highlight of her year is speaking to the annual session and supporting the organization that she participated in years ago.

“As I like to say, sometimes the best man for the job is a woman.”

“I started where these young ladies are over 50 years ago,” Ivey said. “The experience changed my life and gave me a passion for service.”

Ivey hopes the current lady delegates gain a passion for service through the session and use the skills they learn from Girls State to make a difference in the world.

“I want them to go and be good citizens and pursue the careers of their choice and make a difference.”

Ivey also referenced her experience as a woman in the political field and shared a few words of wisdom.

“It’s not always about being the first woman or the first this, the first that, but it’s about being the first person to seek to serve and do what’s right for your constituents.”

According to her website, Ivey is the first Girls State alumnus to be elected to an Alabama Constitutional Office.
