Student Government Association promotes Spring Break safety

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Before students hit the road for Spring Break, two organizations urged them to consider safety precautions.

Friday, the Troy University Police Department (TUPD) and the Student Government Association (SGA) set up a table for students to write their Spring Break plans. Officers and SGA members also shared safety advice.

“We’re just trying to promote students to have a safe spring break and make good decisions,” SGA member Mackenzie Ensley said. “We wanted to do it right before Spring Break because we felt like it was really important to make sure we’re promoting good habits and good practices.”

Officers handed out papers that listed safety tips and emergency phone numbers. They also underscored the importance of drinking responsibly.

“Make sure you drink in moderation, make sure there’s someone who knows where you’re going, be smart about who you’re with, try to make sure everyone is mindful of what they’re doing, and plan ahead,” Ensley suggested.

SGA members say they hope students understand they have available resources.

“We just want to make sure the students know that we care and we want them to all come back in one piece,” Ensley told TrojanVision.

Spring Break begins Monday, March 11. Classes resume Monday, March 18.
