(<a href=\"http:\/\/today.troy.edu\/TROJANVISION\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troyresilienceproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Troy Resilience Project<\/a> is working to provide extra support and education during <a href=\"http:\/\/childwelfare.gov\/preventionmonth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Child Abuse Prevention Month<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 26,000 cases of child mistreatment\u00a0are reported\u00a0in Alabama\u00a0annually,\u00a0according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/alavoices.org\/2025-alabama-kids-count\/#:~:text=The%202025%20Alabama%20Kids%20Count%20Data%20Book%20is%20here!&amp;text=While%20we%20are%20changing%20how,Alabama%20and%20its%2067%20counties.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2025 Alabama Kids Count Databook<\/a>.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0the real people behind those numbers that are spurring the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.troyresilienceproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Troy Resilience Project<\/a> to shine\u00a0light on the less-recognized abusive environments.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although some people may consider child abuse as physical or sexual\u00a0violence,\u00a0according to TRP\u2019s Executive Director Maggie Doss,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0much deeper than that.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2026\/04\/27\/troy-regional-named-top-100-rural-hospital-for-second-year-in-a-row\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>LOCAL NEWS: Troy Regional named Top 100 Rural Hospital for second year in a row<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMaybe [they&#8217;re] a&nbsp;parent who&nbsp;doesn&#8217;t&nbsp;have&nbsp;all of&nbsp;the means necessary to work a job where they might have to leave their children home alone,&#8221; Doss said. &#8220;They might struggle to have the knowledge on how to parent their child&nbsp;properly or they&nbsp;don\u2019t&nbsp;have a way to get their child to the doctor, and things like that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Here at&nbsp;TRP,&nbsp;we work to prevent those things by&nbsp;trying&nbsp;to make sure families have all the resources they need.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although&nbsp;these things may not be intentional, they fall under the category of child neglect.&nbsp;TRP&nbsp;tries to prevent&nbsp;those situations&nbsp;by providing&nbsp;basic necessity resources (food, clothing, hygiene products, etc.) through their care closet, home visit services, school-based mental health help, trauma-informed counseling, and worksforce development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s important to note that you&nbsp;don\u2019t&nbsp;have to be a social worker like the people at TRP to help. People from all&nbsp;walks of life&nbsp;can&nbsp;and are encouraged to help, as these services benefit the entire community, not just the families directly affected.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a real, tangible way to&nbsp;be invested&nbsp;in the community in making a difference in the lives of kids and families,&#8221; Doss said.&nbsp;&#8220;It\u2019s community focused investment and it&#8217;s making our community a better place.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although child abuse prevention&nbsp;month is&nbsp;coming to an end, TRP\u2019s doors are open&nbsp;year-round&nbsp;and any time is the perfect time to&nbsp;help out.&nbsp;You can find TRP at 100 S Market Street in Downtown Troy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
