(TROJANVISION) — A group of student leaders are preparing for one of the biggest transitions in a Troy student’s collegiate journey: new student orientation more commonly known as IMPACT.

Already this summer, student leaders have spent weeks training, building relationships, and serving the community. One recent act of service focused on the people that keep campus moving every day: Troy University bus drivers.

IMPACT leaders delivered gift bags and spent time cleaning buses to show their appreciation.

“It really is a huge responsibility if you think about it, but it’s so fulfilling to serve the incoming students and make sure that they know that they’re loved here, they’re wanted here, and honestly just to put them on the right foot whenever they’re starting,” said Olivia Barron, the coordinator of IMPACT.

MORE FOR YOU: Packing for IMPACT? See what past students say you should bring

IMPACT is a major responsibility. It is nine weeks filled with 12 hour days that are meant to create an environment where students feel welcomed before they ever step foot into a classroom

“Sometimes the summer can get hard, it’s long days- long nights, but keeping the students in mind, you’re serving them all summer,” continued Barron.

IMPACT leader Gray Mitchell said those small acts of service set the tone for the Troy experience

“It gives a good impression to these people that are coming in. We’re not just role models around the school, we are behind the scenes doing things that necessarily nobody else would want to do. The title IMPACT is that you want to impact as many lives as possible. All ways real, always Troy, you want to be honest and transparent with these students and give them the best experience that we can,” said Mitchell.

As the countdown to the fall semester continues, IMPACT leaders hope their service reminds incoming trojans that from the moment they arrive on campus, they’re joining a community ready to support them, encourage them, and help them succeed.

TROY, Ala.
