TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 After months of renovations, the Troy Sportsplex ball fields will soon be open to fans once again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After nearly 30 years of wear and tear and even damage from a tornado<\/a> last year, the Troy Sportsplex is renovating and improving the ball fields that many Troy residents swing by, season after season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Troy Parks and Recreation department began the renovations on the softball fields and Miracle League field back in February. Brian Meadows, the Adult Sports Coordinator, is calling it a phase one project. He said just about everything but the fields’ grass and scoreboards have been fixed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s long overdue I would say,” Meadows said. “These four fields we’re standing on now are approaching 30 years old, and this is really the first major renovations we’ve had.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Included in the ball parks’ renewed looks are new lights, nets and overhead, backstops and brick walls, fences, infield playing surfaces and dugouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dan Smith, Director of the City of Troy Parks and Rec Department, said these improvements are part of the department’s hope to offer the community a quality time away from home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Every night and every day that we’re out here, someone mentions how beautiful it is and that it does not look like the same facilities,” Smith said. “We’re thankful because we take pride in our facilities and in our programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We want the best for our children, and we’re just happy that we’re playing ball again.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now that the renovations are wrapping up, Troy residents can comfortably get excited for the next season, which is scheduled to begin as regular. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We’re ready for them to get out here and to just see the kids having fun and the smiles on the parents’ faces,” said Marquist Henderson, a member of the Troy Parks and Rec ground maintenance team. “That’s what I do it for.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Meadows, a potential second phase of renovations will look to renew the location’s soccer fields and potentially add more softball fields, as well as a regulation football field. The phase is suspected to begin between this fall and next year if it gets approval. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
