TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Troy University’s Homecoming Committee has revealed this year’s homecoming theme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday, student organizations gathered together to find out the\u00a02026 homecoming theme and all the activities involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe had a lot of conversations with alumni and ally people involved in SGA and chancellor Hawkins,” said Sam Lawson, the 2026 Homecoming Co-Director. “Just trying to figure out\u00a0\u00a0how can we be the most inclusive, how can we make the most inclusive theme that we can think of. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“That\u2019s not just including the students; that\u2019s including alumni, that\u2019s including literally anyone. Staff, faculty, just everyone in the university.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year’s theme is Flight 1887. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think at first they\u2019re gonna look at it and be like, okay, we need a little explanation,” said Jamison Blevins, Vice President of Campus Affairs. “When they realize what it really means, they\u2019re going to love it and find out it\u2019s probably one of the best ones\u00a0\u00a0we could possibly have.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TrojanVision reached out to get that \u201clittle explanation.\u201d According to the SGA, Flight 1887 is a nod to Troy University\u2019s 140th birthday in addition to America\u2019s 250th birthday. Through the theme, Troy hopes to celebrate Trojan Pride and various states around the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI love that it\u2019s like taking flight, because I just think that it\u2019s a really good idea of kind like, associating homecoming with the school as a whole taking flight and gaining ground,” said Josh Thompson, Freshman Forum Director. “Just getting better and better, so I really like the theme.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGoing to be completely honest, at first I was a little confused,” said Austin Nordquist, a Lambda Chi Alpha member . “I\u2019m like okay, what really does this mean?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Once they explained it and like, I got the X-ray of it, I really love it. I think other students are going to love it once they understand it and what the meaning behind it is.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think they\u2019re going to like it,” said Jose Garcia, a Delta Kappa Epsilon member. “It\u2019s a really honorable theme. I like the idea that they\u2019re combining both the birthday of Troy with also the 250th anniversary of the United States.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
