(TROJANVISON) — Sorority recruitment is over at Troy University, and this year’s numbers are giving Greek Life something to celebrate.

After months of recruitment efforts, Troy University’s National Panhellenic Council sororities have officially welcomed their latest batch of new members. This year, 201 freshman girls participated in recruitment. Last year, Troy saw 206. This year’s drop rate, however, was lower, and houses saw more girls join and stay.

Dr. Korrie Lynn Williamson, the Associate Dean of Students, said those numbers reflect Troy’s commitment to creating a family dynamic.

“Sorority recruitment is one of my favorite weeks. Just serving as the advisor is an uplifting week where I can be surrounded by hundreds of women who are both a part of our Greek system and our sisterhood here at Troy. So this year was about on par with last year, which was encouraging, as the drop rate was much lower this year than last year.”

BID DAY ’26: See the moment when new sorority sisters ran home

While this year’s recruitment participation remained about the same when compared to last year, not every student feels comfortable going through the traditional recruitment process. Williamson said students who may feel intimidated by traditional recruitment have another option through continuous open bidding.

“Students who may be intimidated by the entire process: there are other ways to get involved through continuous open bidding. That’s a shorter-term set of recruitment pieces, so you’re not having to go through all these parties and events.”

Current members say recruitment is about finding an organization where students can be themselves and make an impact. Hannah Kate Baker, a senior Chi Omega sister, encourages students going through recruitment to stay true to themselves.

“I would say just be yourself, and I know everyone says that, but at the end of the day if you’re pretending to be someone that you’re not, you’re going to have a miserable four years trying to be that person. It’s all about the philanthropy. I think that if we’re leaving Troy the way we found it and we don’t make an impact, it’s just a social club. Our purpose is to make a wish; we raise so much money, so we are trying to do that again, and I know that every sorority on the hill has a purpose and a philanthropy.”

With recruitment now wrapped up, sororities are looking ahead by finding new ways to reach students while continuing to focus on sisterhood, involvement, and philanthropy.

TROY, Ala.
