(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 A crosswalk on campus became the scene of an electronic scooter-related accident on Tuesday, Sept. 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/student-life-resources\/student-resources\/campus-safety\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Troy University Police Department<\/a> (TUPD), a student crossing the street on a motorized scooter behind Hawkins Hall collided with a vehicle coming down John M. Long Drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They say the crash happened Tuesday afternoon when a scooter operator, who was driving a &#8220;one-wheel&#8221; scooter, struck the side of an oncoming car. Officers say the pedestrian walked away from the scene with only minor scrapes on their hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TUPD Police Chief George Beaudry said he wasn&#8217;t surprised when he got the call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2026\/09\/14\/__trashed-5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CAMPUS COVERAGE: Troy campus gives students a lift via its shuttle buses<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;When someone&#8217;s walking and they step into a crosswalk the reaction time of the driver [&#8230;] they&#8217;re able to make that connection and that stop, but if they&#8217;re on these scooters they&#8217;re moving so much faster and the reaction time of the driver can&#8217;t always keep up,&#8221; Beaudry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emergency Manager <a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2026\/09\/17\/emergency-manager-begins-making-rounds-on-troys-campus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trey Ingram<\/a> said the police department is aware of the potential dangers of motorized scooters, and is working to make sure students are aware as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I&#8217;m meeting with media relations later this week where I&#8217;m going to also do a safety reel on how to safely operate these types of devices on campus,&#8221; Ingram told TrojanVision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ingram also said is he is logging every scooter-related accident that happens this semester.
