(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/student-life-resources\/student-resources\/campus-safety\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Troy University Police Department<\/a> (TUPD) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/student-life-resources\/student-resources\/outreach-intervention\/trojan-outreach.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trojan Outreach<\/a> are teaming up to dissuade students from driving drunk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officers and peer educators banded their resources to hold a DUI Simulation. Organizers talked to students in order to promote safe driving via resource tables, a golf cart simulation and safe driving pledges. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The importance of this event is to get students on campus to come and they get to simulate drunk driving,&#8221; said Dessy Pollard, Trojan Outreach peer educator. &#8220;We\u2019re with the Troy University Police Department today so we have different kind of goggles were they try them on and these different levels of being under the influence so they just try to maneuver their way through the cones and we\u2019re just trying to educate them on not drinking and driving.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2026\/11\/06\/increased-police-presence-expected-during-this-years-homecoming-festivities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>RELATED NEWS: Increased police presence expected during this year\u2019s homecoming festivities<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students had the chance to experience firsthand how impaired driving can affect them.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think a danger they think is that they are fine to do it which you\u2019re obviously not when you\u2019re drinking and driving because not only are you putting yourself in harms way but you\u2019re hurting other people that are just in the way and driving,&#8221; Pollard said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;Trojan Outreach and TUPD hope students take the lessons learned beyond this event, and\u202f prioritize safety on the road.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I hope from this event they will understand the safety when we tell them not to drink and drive because we don\u2019t want them to harm themselves or others,&#8221; Pollard said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more information visit the Trojan Outreach&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/trojan_outreach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Instagram page<\/a>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
