{"id":1358,"date":"2021-07-07T16:42:23","date_gmt":"2021-07-07T16:42:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/?p=1358"},"modified":"2021-07-07T16:45:04","modified_gmt":"2021-07-07T16:45:04","slug":"native-chinese-speakers-learn-to-teach-the-chinese-language-at-annual-troy-star-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2021\/07\/07\/native-chinese-speakers-learn-to-teach-the-chinese-language-at-annual-troy-star-camp\/","title":{"rendered":"Teachers learn how to teach the Chinese language at annual TROY-STAR camp."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Learning to teach others a language they have spoken their entire lives is the mission for a group of teachers taking part in <a href=\"http:\/\/troy.edu\">Troy University<\/a>&#8216;s annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/about-us\/offices-departments\/international-languages-cultures\/china\/summer-camps\/index.html\">TROY-STAR<\/a> camp. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group of campers are learning techniques to teach the Chinese language to non-Chinese speakers through a series of workshops throughout the two-week camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The teachers have also been partnered with the student campers to practice the theories they have learned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We pair up teachers with students and they have conversation practice time,&#8221; says Program Manager Austin Deal. &#8220;After that they&#8217;ll go to a formal class where they formally learn Chinese and second language acquisition principles.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The teachers come from different parts of the country so TROY-STAR gives them a chance to share their experiences with one another. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m happy to be here because we have a teacher group so we can share our experiences,&#8221; says Chinese Language Educator Wenjiang Liu. &#8220;We come from different schools, private school, charter school and I came from the public public high school.
