{"id":2068,"date":"2021-11-03T14:43:30","date_gmt":"2021-11-03T14:43:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/?p=2068"},"modified":"2021-11-03T14:46:45","modified_gmt":"2021-11-03T14:46:45","slug":"troy-university-students-participate-in-poverty-simulation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2021\/11\/03\/troy-university-students-participate-in-poverty-simulation\/","title":{"rendered":"Troy University students participate in poverty simulation."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/troy.edu\">Troy University<\/a> students got a taste of what it is like to live in poverty as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/academics\/academic-resources\/center-student-success\/office-of-civic-engagement\/\">Office of Civic Engagement<\/a> held a poverty simulation to allow students to experience financial struggles first hand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Civic Engagement periodically hosts a poverty simulation to teach students the reality of what it&#8217;s like to live life in a position of poverty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The student participants were challenged with real life scenarios such as limited budgets evictions and crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We feel that it&#8217;s important for our students at TROY to have this experience,&#8221; says Coordinator of Civic Engagement Lauren Cochran. &#8220;The poverty simulation walks them through a full month in poverty. They are provided a scenario and they have a role as a family member.
