{"id":2150,"date":"2021-11-10T15:59:05","date_gmt":"2021-11-10T15:59:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/?p=2150"},"modified":"2021-11-10T16:01:00","modified_gmt":"2021-11-10T16:01:00","slug":"sound-of-the-souths-return-to-the-field-marks-a-return-to-normal-for-the-band","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2021\/11\/10\/sound-of-the-souths-return-to-the-field-marks-a-return-to-normal-for-the-band\/","title":{"rendered":"Sound of the South&#8217;s return to the field marks a return to normal for the band."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/troy.edu\">Troy University<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/academics\/colleges-schools\/college-communication-fine-arts\/departments\/john-m-long-school-music\/sound-of-the-south\/\">Sound of the South<\/a> is back on the turf of Veterans Memorial Stadium for pregame and halftime after having to spend a season in the stands due to COVID-19 restrictions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Well it was difficult, but I tell you what, the flexibility of the students made it really work,&#8221; says Director of Bands Dr. Mark Walker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year the band is back marching on its home turf and has performed in five exhibitions since the start of the football season Dr. Walker says a return to the field is a return to normalcy for the Sound of the South.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Oh, it was great. It was like Christmas,&#8221; says Walker. &#8220;I never thought that I would miss not marching like I did. It was remarkable how much I missed it and I think the rest of the band did too. I think it was unexpected and when we got back on the field for our first game it&#8217;s like &#8216;Oh man, we&#8217;re home.
