{"id":3051,"date":"2022-06-20T14:48:27","date_gmt":"2022-06-20T14:48:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/?p=3051"},"modified":"2022-06-20T14:49:04","modified_gmt":"2022-06-20T14:49:04","slug":"sound-of-the-south-holds-annual-summer-high-school-music-leadership-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2022\/06\/20\/sound-of-the-south-holds-annual-summer-high-school-music-leadership-camp\/","title":{"rendered":"Sound of the South holds annual Summer High School Music Leadership Camp"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hundreds of the best and brightest high school band members from all parts of the nation came to the campus of <a href=\"http:\/\/troy.edu\">Troy University<\/a> for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/academics\/colleges-schools\/college-communication-fine-arts\/departments\/john-m-long-school-music\/sound-of-the-south\/summer-study.html\">Sound of the South&#8217;s Annual Summer Music and Leadership Camp<\/a> to refine their skills with the famed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/academics\/colleges-schools\/college-communication-fine-arts\/departments\/john-m-long-school-music\/sound-of-the-south\/\">Sound of The South<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Well this is our Annual Summer Music Leadership Camp,&#8221; says Director of Bands Dr. Mark Walker. &#8220;We have classes in drum major, in leadership, color guard, majorette and dancing. We have concert band and percussion ensemble or drum line.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The high school students have been working  hard all week to improve their skill, however, improvement is not the only goal for the camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The end goal is to have a great time and enjoy what they came here to do,&#8221; says Walker. &#8220;They learn some new skills. They polish some existing skills that they already have and they make they make new friends.
