TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Students gave to a good cause and showed off their dance moves during a fundraising dance marathon created by the Freshman Forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday, Feb. 23, members of the Freshman Forum<\/a> and TROY’s student body took to the dance floor during the “Whirl for WarHawgs” dance marathon. The event aimed to raise money for Dothan-based WarHawgs<\/a> veterans group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Tonight all the ticket sales, sponsorships that we’ve also accumulated are going to go straight to WarHawgs, which is a 501c3 non-profit organization,” aid event coordinator Caleb Smith. “They deal with veterans, first responders, and military who have PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and other types of physical and mental disabilities.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freshman Forum’s president and students said they were grateful for the opportunity to give back to their community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s really awesome just to give back to the community both here and in Dothan,” Freshman Forum President Madison McElrath said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although student groups often hold fundraisers for various events, the dance-styled fundraiser seemed to strike a chord with students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This is the very first time we’ve ever done a Dance Marathon or any type of dance event,” said event coordinator Caleb Smith. “We’re very excited to get the ball rolling with this.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students told TrojanVision they prefer this type of event because of its easy-going environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I’ve been to a couple banquets here and it just feels like it’s a chore to come to stuff like that,” said student Garret Canterbury. “it’s just boring to pull up in like a suit and everything. it’s more free when this type of stuff.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
