(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Troy University hosted its annual Breast Cancer Walk in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One student told TrojanVision she walked to remember her family member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I am always going to support people who have breast cancer and who are still fighting it because my grandmother passed away maybe about six or seven years ago,&#8221; Kimberly Branch said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Branch remembers what it was like supporting her grandmother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve seen what she went through and how it affected us and our family. I just always want to be that support system that somebody was for us for other people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the breast cancer walk is over, Branch&#8217;s memories of her grandmother haven&#8217;t stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;A memory that I hold near and dear to my heart is Thanksgiving. She always cooks the food and prepares the pies and stuff but the last year that she was living I got to help her make the food. She just taught me a lot of valuable life lessons during that time that I will forever hold and cherish to my heart.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though her grandmother&#8217;s fight is over, Branch told TrojanVision she&#8217;ll never stop supporting those whose fight continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States, except for skin cancers. It is about 30% (or 1 in 3) of all new female cancers each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Centers for the Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says warning signs of breast cancer include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>New lump in the breast or underarm (armpit).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thickening or swelling of part of the breast.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Irritation or dimpling of breast skin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Redness or flaky skin in the nipple area or the breast.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pulling in of the nipple or pain in the nipple area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nipple discharge other than breast milk, including blood.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any change in the size or the shape of the breast.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pain in any area of the breast.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information about breast cancer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
