TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 An exciting announcement was made last December that greatly affected Troy Public Radio (TPR<\/a>): a $10,000 grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey said, \u2018We\u2019re going to hold a live stream, so send out the link,\u2019 but then they said \u2018We also have a donation from a generous corporate sponsor of ten thousand dollars and we\u2019re going to hold a drawing. One station that\u2019s participating will win ten thousand dollars,\u2019\u201d said Kyle Gassiott, Director of Troy Public Radio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The grant was presented by actor Neil Patrick Harris and radio personality Ira Glass. Troy Public Radio, among hundreds of other stations, entered in a raffle for this grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was just a randomly chosen station,\u201d Gassiott continued. \u201cIn fact, the email in which we entered was just a two-word email. They said \u2018Do you want to be part of it?\u2019 and I said \u2018Yes please.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Troy Public Radio was the lucky winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe said \u2018Are you sitting down?\u2019 and I said \u2018I am now,\u2019 and she said \u201cWell, I\u2019ve got big news for you. If you weren\u2019t watching last night, you guys were the station that was randomly chosen and you got ten thousand dollars,\u2019\u201d said Gassiott.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Troy Public Radio plans on using the money from the grant to extend its programming and give back to its viewers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just another way that we can extend the service that we do,” Gassiott explained. “Really, it\u2019s all about them giving to the station and us being able to give back through this generous gift.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gassiott told TrojanVision that Troy Public Radio is very grateful for this award and honored to be recognized by such a well-known program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThank you, Ira Glass, thank you, Neil Patrick Harris, thank you, This American Life,\u201d said Gassiott.\u00a0\u201cIt was really just a great moment for us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
