(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Did you know that Troy University has its very own Wrestling Club?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The club, which has 30 members, is one of the newest groups on TROY&#8217;s campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At a typical practice, the Wrestling Club begins with a warmup run. Next, the wrestlers drill their different moves before ending practice with conditioning. The club is open for all students. Practices are held Monday-Friday from 5-7 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;It really kept me grounded,&#8221; said freshman member Mattie Register. &#8220;It&#8217;s really good to have a schedule and to have something to keep you active and your mental health sharp. I don&#8217;t think that I could have asked for a better set of friends. Especially coming into a new environment like college from a really small high school, it&#8217;s been just phenomenal, honestly.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Members attend annual conferences in the month of March. They compete on mats, wear head gear, and show off their latest moves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2023\/09\/13\/rugby-team-holds-annual-alumni-game\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OTHER NEWS: What to know about TROY&#8217;s rugby team<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We can compete in any Division 1, Division 2, Division 3 tournament or go to separate tournaments that they have for the NCWA specifically,&#8221; said Club President Nicholas Gelsosomo. &#8220;We just go to whatever competition that we can schedule and fit in'&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the biggest challenges for the club is fundraising. In the past, members have held Pie in the Face, and several raffles. They also have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/g4sc9x-new-wrestling-club\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GoFundMe<\/a> set up.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We need to fund our own club, since we do not get any funding from the school,&#8221; Gelsosomo explained. &#8220;We are trying to do fundraisers, GoFundMe&#8217;s, and stuff like that to help. It&#8217;s kind of been difficult to get funds and to keep everything going, but one of the big benefits is meeting new people and having a better way to just stay in shape instead of just going to the gym or hitting the treadmill.&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To learn more about this club, join or make a donation, visit the club&#8217;s Instagram page @troytrojanswrestling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/g4sc9x-new-wrestling-club\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fundraiser<\/a>, the club is trying to raise $10,000 in order to purchase a wrestling mat, cover tournament fees and trips.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
