(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/academics\/academic-resources\/center-student-success\/office-of-civic-engagement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Office of Civic Engagement<\/a> is just weeks away from this year&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/academics\/academic-resources\/center-student-success\/office-of-civic-engagement\/can-castle.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Can<em>less <\/em>Castle Contest<\/a>\u2014an initiative that works to fight child hunger in Pike County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual competition is a joint event between the Office of Civic Engagement and Student Involvement that sees student groups donate non-perishable foods that will be given to TROY&#8217;s Backpack for Kids program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Office of Civic Engagement&#8217;s website, 20%* of Pike County children are food insecure, which means they lack access to food that supports an active and healthy lifestyle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the competition once accepted canned goods, the Backpack for Kids program is now well-stocked and is in need of other foods such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fruit \u2013 fruit cups and applesauce<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Main Course \u2013 microwavable ravioli and mac-n-cheese<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Breakfast &#8211; oatmeal or grits packets and breakfast bars<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Snack &#8211; peanut butter crackers, animal crackers, goldfish, granola bar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Students do not have to be in an official student group to participate in the contest. Friend groups are <a href=\"https:\/\/my.troy.edu\/civic-engagement\/can-castle-registration.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">welcome to register<\/a>. The deadline to register is Friday, March 29. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The competition is scheduled for Wednesday, April 3 from 2-4 p.m. at Tailgate Terrace (in case of inclement weather, an alternate location will be announced).
