TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — A new production that shows to pull audiences into a dark spin on the classic cartoon comic strip “Peanuts” has opened.

“Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” has been in the works since January. Now, Troy University’s Department of Theatre and Dance has unveiled its version of Bert V. Royal’s original work.

“I am looking forward to seeing the audience’s reaction to our show. It is a very deep show,” said Weezie Brand, who plays the character of Van’s sister. “It is a very deep show. It has a lot of layers to it and I’m really excited to see how they accept it and how they view our work as these characters.”

Although the play covers deep topics such as identity, societal norms, and grief, it is the actors behind the characters whom undergo the challenge of displaying strong emotions.

“It’s been an experience. I’ve had to realize that I need to be more gentle with people,” said Caleb Quick, who plays CB. “I feel like in today’s society, we’re used to being brutally honest and sometimes it comes off as abrasive. I’ve realized that it takes time to talk to people and get to know them because we’re people. We have different layers. There’s so many sides to us and they’re not always seen by everyone.”

The production will feature strong language and mature themes. Audience discretion is advised, and the recommended age limit is 17 years and older. General admission tickets are $5.

The play will take place in Malone Black Box March 21-24.
