(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 A Troy University student is using her title as Miss Huntsville to raise awareness about child abuse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some college students spend their free time hanging out with their friends or relaxing at home, but junior Zoie McGuyer spends her free time serving a community that is almost four hours away from Troy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McGuyer, who is an interdisciplinary studies student taking 18 credit hours at Troy University, holds the title of Miss Huntsville 2024. McGuyer says it can hard to balance her priorities, but it\u2019s worth it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2024\/03\/21\/troy-couple-says-we-do-during-study-abroad-trip-to-greece\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>KEEP READING:<\/strong> TROY couple says \u2018we do\u2019 during study abroad trip to Greece<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen competing for the job of Miss Huntsville, I knew that some things would need to take a seat in the back seat,\u201d McGuyer said. \u201cThere are some days that are more of a struggle, but being Miss Huntsville is the greatest thing I have done yet.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recently, McGuyer debuted a project that she says is near and dear to her heart. It\u2019s a podcast called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@EmbraceYourGracewithZo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u2018Embrace Your Grace.\u2019<\/a> McGuyer will welcome guests to talk about the signs, symptoms, and statistics of child abuse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is for survivors, warriors, legislators and court-appointed special advocates to all come together to speak and spread light on child abuse,\u201d McGuyer explained. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@EmbraceYourGracewithZo\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"970\" src=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/04\/IMG_4469-1024x970.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5694\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.0556701030927835;width:564px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/04\/IMG_4469-1024x970.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/04\/IMG_4469-300x284.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/04\/IMG_4469-768x727.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/04\/IMG_4469.jpeg 1170w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Courtesy of McGuyer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The podcast, which debuted during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childwelfare.gov\/preventionmonth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Child Abuse Prevention Month<\/a>, draws on McGuyer&#8217;s personal experience with child abuse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs a survivor of child abuse, I feel like it\u2019s my mission to get these kids out of that experience a lot sooner, so they can live their lives a lot better,\u201d McGuyer expressed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to McGuyer, the podcast also stemmed from the work of her non-profit organization, <a href=\"https:\/\/savinggracewehearyou.rallyup.com\/donate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&#8220;Saving Grace, We Hear You<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI started \u2018Embrace Your Grace\u2019 as a person who struggled with child abuse first-hand. I know the frustrations of it. I\u2019m here, I\u2019m alive, I am Miss Huntsville, and I have the platform to help the children who need it the most.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s those small voices that should be heard above all others, and that is why I\u2019m here today.&#8221;<\/p><cite>Zoie McGuyer, Miss Huntsville 2024<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McGuyer believes there is always a project to be done while holding a title. She\u2019s currently drafting a proclamation that would dedicate an entire day to educating people about child abuse and supporting child abuse survivors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McGuyer will be back on the big pageant stage in June as she competes in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.missalabama.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Miss Alabama pageant<\/a>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
