(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Troy University\u2019s has named the recipient of the 2024 Hall-Waters Prize for Excellence in Southern Writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/patriciafosterwriter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Patricia Foster <\/a>is an author who is now part of Troy University\u2019s Hall-Waters Prize legacy. Her most recent published work is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uapress.ua.edu\/9780817360962\/written-in-the-sky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cWritten in the Sky: Lessons of a Southern Daughter.\u201d<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe read autobiographies, we read memoirs of people because they move us to know the individual and the individual coming of age journey, the individual health journey, the individual that\u2019s in trauma,\u201d Foster explained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Foster has been teaching for over 25 years. Her works commonly cover sensitive topics like gender inequality, mental illness, poverty and even death. She says students not only need to discuss these topics, but want to discuss them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2024\/04\/08\/english-department-discusses-fluctuating-degree-completion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>OTHER NEWS: English department discusses fluctuating degree completion<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey get irritated with you if you don\u2019t talk about the hard questions and, not just the hard questions in terms of culture, but the hard questions in terms of literature,\u201d Foster told TrojanVision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the Hall-Waters presentation, students were allowed to ask her questions and advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hall-Waters ceremony is organized by English majors in Dr. Kirk Curnutt&#8217;s English 4495, senior seminar class. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
