TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Troy University is home to a brand new, and award-winning, Gymnastics Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The club, which was formed in Fall 2023, is part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs<\/a>. Its members strengthen their coordination by using bars and balance beams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I love the environment here and that is really why I became a part of the team,” said freshman gymnast Hannah Cox. “It’s really just doing something for fun. It’s not as tough as a gymnastics team would be, as like a USAG team. Even if you were a gymnast before, this is just so different from anything that I have ever done before.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gymnasts began competing in meets in February. In March, the team won the \u201cChomp the Swamp\u201d Southeast Regional competition hosted by the University of Florida with a score of 107. <\/p>\n\n\n

During the competition, the Trojans competing against other teams including the University of South Carolina, Kennesaw State University, Vanderbilt University, Emory University and Florida Atlantic University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“That title means a lot to us, especially as a first-year program,” said founder, president and head coach Maren Settle. “We beat a lot of various established names and very big programs that we never expected to be able to compete against. So, bringing that title home to Troy means not only a lot to us but also a lot to the Troy community as well. Hopefully, that will help the program grow and get more attention.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
