TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Three games were all the Trojan softball team<\/a> had to earn the tiebreaker over the Warhawks during the weekend’s three-game series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coming in, the Warhawks were ranked third in the Sunbelt Conference while the Trojans ranked fourth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her first start after posting a 12 inning outing, Libby Baker<\/a> posted six innings pitched while giving up four earned runs. Baker tacked on a strikeout as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trojans hit well with eight starters collecting hits that included home runs from Baker and catcher Sarah Beth Brake<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trojans could not push many runs across and dropped game one of the series 4-3. After reflecting on game one, the team realized it was within striking distance of bringing home the win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A few more things go our way and we win that game,” said Head Coach Eric Newell<\/a>. “That is baseball and softball. Sometimes you catch a break, sometimes you do not.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Game two of the series opened with the Warhawks tagging pitcher Alyssa Faircloth<\/a> for two runs in the top of the first. After a shaky start to the second inning, freshman Savannah Money took the circle in relief of Faircloth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly after, Libby Baker scorched a ball to left field to plate a run. The next inning saw TROY string a few hits and walks together eventually tying the game. Jaida McCord<\/a> later scored the go-ahead run on a Jade Sinness ground out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baker would also add an insurance run with a home-run in the fifth inning. TROY took game two of the series 4-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After pitching six innings two days prior, Baker took the circle to close the door on the Warhawks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This game was Trojans all the way, starting with freshman Jillian Williams<\/a> busting the game on a three run home-run in the bottom of the second inning. It would be Williams’ first home run of both the season and her TROY career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trojans added two runs a piece in the next two innings respectively, pushing the score to 7-1, and closed the door on the series, winning the game 7-3.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
