TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 The Hall School of Journalism and Communication<\/a> (HSJC) will soon welcome Alabama Political Reporter Jacob Holmes<\/a> to TROY’s campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holmes, an HSJC alumnus, will serve as the speaker for this year’s M. Stanton Evans Journalism Symposium, and is expected to describe his experience covering the story of an Alabama librarian who was fired after standing his ground against the removal of certain books from a library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to HSJC Director Robbyn Taylor, it was Holmes’ request for information that sparked national interested about the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“He\u2019s at the center of media controversy so to speak,” Taylor said. “He\u2019s been under fire lately by some folks who were calling him a ‘fake journalist,’ and saying that he\u2019s he\u2019s putting out fake news. This is a situation where I can safely say that is not the case. There\u2019s no misinformation. It\u2019s just people who don\u2019t like the truth.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Holmes talks about his experience, Taylor hopes students see the importance of ethical and brave journalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We hear the term ‘fake news’ thrown around so often that we kind of get desensitized to it, but he\u2019s living through that right now,” Taylor explained. “I think our students will find value in seeing someone who\u2019s been in their shoes who is fighting the good fight.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
