(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Brass, Reeds, and percussion were all displayed Thursday night during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/academics\/colleges-schools\/college-communication-fine-arts\/departments\/john-m-long-school-music\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">John M. Long School of Music<\/a>&#8216;s Honors Recital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recital featured eight music majors who were selected through an audition. Musicians showcased works for piano, trumpet, saxophone, oboe, guitar, marimba and clarinet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each musician&#8217;s performance was also judged by visiting guests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We decided to hire three external judges, some are from Florida and other are from different places in Alabama,&#8221; said Interim Director of School of Music Dr. Hui- Ting Yang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Years ago, the Honors Recital was stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic. One student says he&#8217;s glad to have the recital back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2024\/04\/08\/instructors-dazzle-audience-during-duet-piano-recital\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RELATED NEWS: Instructors dazzle during duet piano recital<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This recital was a thing before COVID but ever since COVID it kind of frizzled out,&#8221; said Trumpet player Theo Hornsby. &#8220;I was very excited to be on the first one back.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Organizers said the concert&#8217;s off campus location helps increase community engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;It&#8217;s a great opportunity for to outreach to the community and also introduce the community to our students,&#8221; Yang said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thursday&#8217;s concert also marked one students&#8217; final performance at TROY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This is honestly just an amazing experience that I&#8217;ve had playing for everybody,&#8221; said guitarist Diandra Williams. &#8220;I&#8217;m a senior, so my time is coming up so it&#8217;s just honestly refreshing to get this opportunity to play I&#8217;m grateful for it.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was the first time the Honors Recital was held off campus at the <a href=\"https:\/\/jcatroy.org\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Johnson Center for the Arts<\/a>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
