TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 The International Arts Center<\/a> (IAC) is set to unveil its latest exhibition created by Troy University associate professor Sara Dismukes<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dismukes and the IAC will showcase “Liminal,” which will feature Dismukes’ recent paintings that focus on everyday items that are often unnoticed such as signs and landscapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We all move back and forth between public and private spaces,” Dismukes said. “Rather than call attention to the origin or the destination, I pay attention to what is found along the way.\u00a0I am compelled by the social mediation of landscape, and how desire and disregard are manifested in objects and spaces over time. I am influenced by the legacy of landscape painting, of Manifest Destiny, and its current expression in our built and natural environment.”<\/p>\n\n\n

Dismukes’ work also features recognizable places and things from the surrounding area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Many visitors will recognize these forgotten and weathered signs and landmarks that line the stretch of High 231 between Troy and Montgomery,” said IAC curator Carrie Jaxon. “This exhibition invites viewers to reconsider the insight found in the in-between moments, the neglected, and the forgotten reflections of the economy and our past.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show will be up until Aug. 22.\u00a0The IAC will host a closing reception on Aug. 22\u00a0at 5 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, there will be an artist talk at the IAC with Dismukes and TROY lecturer Dr. Kenyon Holder on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 12:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served at both events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sara Dismukes is a multidisciplinary artist, designer, and educator based in Montgomery. She has been part of TROY\u2019s Department of Art and Design since 2006.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
