TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Troy softball<\/a> ended its home portion of the 2-24 season with a heartbreaker game on senior night against South Alabama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stakes were high when the Trojans came into the series one game behind the Jaguars for third place in the Sun Belt Conference. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a walk-off win in game one and dropping game two, the stage was set for the rubber match of the series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior Libby Baker<\/a> led the Trojans into battle from the circle one last time in front of the Trojan faithful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Alabama sent its ace Olivia Lackie to the circle after relenting a run in the third inning, and she was able to keep the Trojan bats quiet until Baker hit her 11 home run of the year in the sixth inning.<\/p>\n\n\n

Baker saw 4.2 inning from the circle giving up six earned runs on eight hits. The Trojans strung together eight hits as a team but it was not enough as they fell 7-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the Trojans did not bring home the series win, head coach Eric Newell<\/a> said the series serves as a learning experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There’s positives and things we can take from the series that we did good,” Newell told TrojanVision. “There’s some things that we can take from this series and strive to be better at as we gear up for Louisiana and head into the postseason.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Game three of the series also served as Senior Day. The Trojans honored six seniors prior to first pitch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We’ve had a good bit of adversity, had some injuries, had this and had that but they continued to kind of rise to the top,” Newell said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TROY has officially wrapped up its home portion of the 2024 season, securing a home record of 16-10.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
