This one, though, is special.

“It was one of the first murals that we painted downtown Troy,” Smith said. “Back in the early to late 90’s a lot of the buildings downtown Troy area were boarded up, not being used. Downtown was going downhill, unfortunately. So I met with a lot of people in the city of TROY and asked if we could start by doing some murals to kind of inspire people to want to redo downtown.”

The mural highlights Troy’s rural areas and historic sites.

“We tried to bring in some of the buildings from the Pioneer Museum. We decided to do the cotton field and old cabins.”

LOCAL NEWS: GoodTimes Bowling opens its doors in Troy

Students from Charles Henderson High School and Pike Liberal Arts spent several days completing the project.

“I want to contribute to downtown and make it look better,” said student Riley Burkett.

“I think it is really special because we get to make a difference in the scenery around Troy ,” student Garrett Whitaker told TrojanVision. “I have lived here my whole life so I like to make people smile whenever they drive by it.”

“I just thought it was a good opportunity, once in a lifetime and painting is fun,” student Yaley Mclendon said.

Now that the mural is complete, passerby are encouraged to stop by and enjoy the view.

TROY, Ala.
