(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Troy University welcomed students to <a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/tag\/camp-success\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Camp Success<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Camp Success, a program ran by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rehab.alabama.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services<\/a> (ADRS), has made its way back to TROY&#8217;s campus. The partnership dates back nearly a decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s probably been about nine or ten years,&#8221; said State Coordinator of Deaf\/HH Services Ben Hollingsworth. &#8220;We&#8217;ve been happy here at the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services to partner with Troy and we look forward to doing it every year.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2024\/06\/18\/arboretum-receives-all-terrain-wheelchair-increases-accessibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CAMPUS NEWS: <\/strong>Arboretum receives all-terrain wheelchair, increases accessibility<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some first-year students have a hard time adjusting to college. Students who are hearing-impaired may have an even harder time; that is where Camp Success steps in to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The objective of the camp is to show deaf and heard of hearing students the experience of living on a college campus,&#8221;  Hollingsworth said. &#8220;We want to encourage them to do better to understand what they need to prepare for in the first year of college.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of the camp is to show campers what college life could be like for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;A real world experience,&#8221; Hollingsworth added. &#8220;We give them opportunities to experience living in a dorm, experience going into the class room, learning about possible accommodations they might need like using an interpreter or using cart services.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hollingsworth also had some tips for hearing students on how to make hearing-impaired students feel more comfortable on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Treat students with hearing loss the same as any other student; when you talk with them look them in the eye, if they have hearing loss or they&#8217;re hard of hearing you may have to speak up, speak clearly.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2024\/06\/24\/trojan-patriots-visit-butter-and-egg-adventures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>MORE:<\/strong> Trojan Patriots visit Butter and Egg Adventures<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the course of the week, students will attend a variety of sessions with information ranging from writing, helpful technologies and other aspects of career readiness.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
