TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 The Troy University Police Department<\/a> (TUPD) is using grant money to ramp up its campus security measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville secured almost 95 million dollars for the state of Alabama. That money is meant to help Alabama’s military bases, waterways and local law enforcement. $150,000 was given to TUPD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funding will be used to improve CCTV camera at Veterans Memorial Stadium, purchase a mobile camera trailer and enhance officers’ personal safety equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are going to upgrade the camera over there to gives us a lot better view of the stadium and help provide a lot more security and investigative resources with the camera system,” said Chief of Police George Beaudry. “This will give officers an opportunity to actually have real time viewing capabilities of areas that we previously didn’t have.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CCTV cameras are part of the university’s camera system. They can be found all over campus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This gives us an opportunity to be able to conduct an investigation and also again watch in real time camera footage if we need to,” Beaudry said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

TUPD is also using the some of the money to provide security for officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Active shooter response kits, so all of or officers are going to be equipped with ballistic panel vest and helmet,” Beaudry explained. “We will be implementing some response equipment that specifically designed for active shooting.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As law enforcement agencies across the country work to combat security risks, especially at schools, Beaudry says any help is greatly appreciated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This funding goes a long way to provide a safer community for us here at Troy and absolutely without the help of Senator Tuberville we may have not had that opportunity,” Beaudry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A UTV vehicle will also be added to TUPD’s fleet so officers can provide a rapid response to areas they might not be able to make it to with a motor vehicle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veterans Memorial Stadium will receive 12 new cameras. Those cameras will be disbursed throughout Tailgate Terrace and the stadium concourse.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
