(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 First Responders and members of the Troy University community honored first responders whose lives were lost 23 years ago during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/politics\/2021\/09\/02\/two-decades-later-the-enduring-legacy-of-9-11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">9\/11<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each year, Troy University holds an annual stair climb at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Wednesday morning students, faculty and local officers and fire fighters climbed up and down stadium steps in memory of fallen first responders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The climb symbolizes the journey made by those who responded to the attacks to the World Trade Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I think a lot of people are willing to take on that discomfort to remember some of the discomfort, some of the sorrow, some of the sadness,&#8221; said participate Jeff Nichols. &#8220;We&#8217;re trying to not hold on to continue the suffering but to create healing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The climb also served as a reminder of the enduring spirit and resilience of those who were affected by the terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2024\/09\/16\/troy-professors-remember-9-11-terrorist-attacks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>RELATED NEWS: <\/strong>Troy professors remember 9\/11 terrorist attacks<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;My heart is still with those who lost their lives,&#8221; said Campus Affairs Vice President Burnard Thomas. &#8220;I know people who were affected by it and in Manhattan on that day and so, emotionally, I I just feel a sense of compassion with those families.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The stair climb served as a powerful reminder to members of today&#8217;s younger generation that were not alive when the attacks happened. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re the first kind of group of kids that didn&#8217;t see it and didn&#8217;t really experience how it affected us,&#8221; explained participant Dawson Corin. &#8220;Doing things like this kind of puts into perspective, not firsthand exactly, but close to it. Shows us how it was for people that day.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 9\/11 stair climb is an annual event that takes place each year at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
