{"id":6648,"date":"2024-09-17T16:25:10","date_gmt":"2024-09-17T16:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/?p=6648"},"modified":"2024-09-17T16:25:10","modified_gmt":"2024-09-17T16:25:10","slug":"pike-county-communities-form-neighborhood-watch-amid-safety-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2024\/09\/17\/pike-county-communities-form-neighborhood-watch-amid-safety-concerns\/","title":{"rendered":"Pike County communities form neighborhood watch amid safety concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>TROY, Ala (<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 A series of safety concerns in communities in the Pike County area have residents wanting to take action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Communities such as Enon, Monticello, Josie and Shiloh have seen an uptick in stolen property. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Thefts out of people&#8217;s barns, yards, carports,&#8221; said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pikecountyalsheriff.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pike County Sheriff Rusell Thomas<\/a>. &#8220;We are seeing more of that. Matter of fact, we&#8217;ve made three or four arrest in the last seven days for those type of cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheriff Thomas says his office has received several calls from concerned citizens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;When you see crime go up in an area people become concerned and they don&#8217;t want to become a victim, and we don&#8217;t want them to be a victim,&#8221; Thomas said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now members of these communities are banding together in hopes of stopping crime via a neighborhood watch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you see something out of place or anything specious, please say something,&#8221; Thomas said. &#8220;We&#8217;ll put up the neighborhood watch signs on the roadways. It&#8217;s good when you have people you call like the neighborhood watch chairman person to notify all the other members of the neighborhood watch and they&#8217;re on the lookout. &#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Official neighborhoods watch groups also have the benefit of being supported by law enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We want to do what we can to help them and in return they will help us.
