In a few weeks, he will be sworn in as Chief of Police.

“It is a huge responsibility and I don’t take it lightly,” Barron said. “Being the Chief of Police is a huge responsibility. You’re in a sense, responsible for the safety of the community and the well-being of the people who live here.”

Barron was hired out of high school as a jailer by former Chief Grady Reeves.

“I got the bug. I really enjoyed it. When I found that this was really something I wanted to do, I decided I wanted to go to college when I had told myself I never would.”

Barron majored in Criminal Justice at Troy State University and was the first in his family to get a college degree. He encourages others to find what they want to do with their life and go for it.

“I always try to tell younger people that when you find something you’re passionate about, it really helps motivate you to do the things you need to help you succeed.”

According to Barron, he does not plan to change the department but to add to what is already in place.

“If it’s not broke don’t fix it. We’ve got a really good thing here. In police work, you’ve got to stay on top of technology. We’ve got really good body cameras. We’ve got really good cameras throughout the city that’s really helped us in fighting crime.”

Overall, Barron says he works for the people of Troy and is thankful for the opportunity.

“I’m very appreciative that the council and the mayor has enough confidence in me to give me the opportunity to lead this great department.”

Barron will be sworn in as chief on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. at Troy City Hall.

Troy, Ala.
