(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 After two years of work, Troy University has officially opened its first building dedicated completely to research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saturday the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/academics\/colleges-schools\/college-arts-sciences\/departments\/school-science-technology\/center-materials-manufacturing-services\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Center for Materials and Manufacturing Sciences<\/a> (CMMS) building officially opened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;When you think that only 15% of all plastics are recycled and you realize that 85% of those plastics that are not recycled go into land fields and to the ocean, you see what a potentially great contribution can be made here,&#8221; Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As members of Troy&#8217;s College of Arts and Sciences and alumni watched, Hawkins and and the Board of Trustees cut the ribbon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2024\/09\/27\/troy-university-arboretum-receives-accessibility-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CAMPUS COVERAGE: <\/strong>Troy University arboretum receives accessibility funding<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We study polymers so we study how to recycle polymers more efficiently,&#8221; said Dr.\u00a0Govind Menon, Director of School of Science and Technology. &#8220;We also think about creating new composite polymers that can be easily recycled.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The building, which will be geared completely to research, meaning no classrooms, is already fully operational and is ready to begin serving students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;What we can learn to gear up and to scale up for the rest of the University,&#8221; Menon said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CMMS and those who work inside it are expected to partner with local polymer and plastic industry leaders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
