TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Troy’s volleyball team<\/a> pulled off a massive comeback against South Alabama<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the 3-0 sweep against the Jaguars the day before, Troy had another match-up against their in-state rivals on Friday. The game got off to a rough start, with South Alabama taking the first two sets. It seemed as if the Trojans were out of the game going into the third set, a complete reversal of roles from the previous day. However, the home crowd got behind the team, as noted by head coach Josh Lauer<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The home environment is one where we can get some energy,” Lauer said. “It’s one where we can put some pressure on the other team. That’s what college sports is all about. It doesn’t matter if it’s volleyball, football, all the sports. I’m just really appreciative of the crowd last night and tonight coming out and supporting. Tell your friends, tell your family. This is a great show. We have great athletes and this is a super fun game.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Troy would score six straight points in the third frame to keep themselves in the game. By the end of it, the Trojans had completed the reverse sweep, winning it 3-2. This came on the backs of senior Tori Hester<\/a> and junior Amiah Butler<\/a>, both finishing with 30 and 18 kills respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Junior Janelle Stuempfig<\/a> played a pivotal role too, recording 38 assists. Leading into their upcoming match-up against Texas State, Lauer talked about what the Trojans need to improve on before facing the Bobcats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We gotta dial in our serving a little bit,” Lauer said. “It was real tough at times and got a little erratic. That’s gonna be really important this coming weekend. Texas State is a really physical team. We’re gonna have to put our helmets on in the back row and be a little bit more stable defensively.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the win over South Alabama, Troy is now 2-0 in the Sun Belt Conference and 7-5 overall. Troy has never beaten Texas State in volleyball, but they head to San Marcos, Texas for a double header<\/a> starting October 4.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
