TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 A new documentary detailing Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr.’s time in the Vietnam War and his journey to peace has debuted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday Troy University debuted the documentary short film “Beyond a War<\/a>,” which tells the story of the unlikely friendship between Hawkins and Duy Tan University Dr. L\u00ea C\u00f4ng C\u01a1 after they both fought in the Vietnam War, on opposing sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It was a strange partnership with two men who had been on opposite sides of the war coming together,” Hawkins explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the documentary both Hawkins and C\u01a1 recall memories of the war as well as their journeys since. Both later entered the education field and became leaders of Troy University<\/a> and Duy Tan University<\/a>, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two leaders have also partnered their students together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNIVERSITY NEWS: <\/strong>Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. announces decision not to retire<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have about 1,200 students on the ground in Vietnam in about 2,000 alumni,” Hawkins said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Hawkins, the documentary is a way to promote reconciliation and the joining of two countries through peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s a story that I think its time has come. We’ve talked about war long enough. Now let’s talk about reconciliation, peace and how we can work together in unity to make this world a better place.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
