(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 In honor of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalbreastcancer.org\/breast-cancer-awareness-month\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Breast Cancer Awareness Month<\/a>, the City of Troy\u2019s Public Relations and Tourism Office held a \u201cPink Event\u201d to raise awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Cancer doesn&#8217;t have a particular person to come to,&#8221; said Reginia Foster, a breast cancer survivor. &#8220;It&#8217;s important to celebrate the people that have been diagnosed or may have lost their battle to breast cancer.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several survivors spoke at the event to share their battle with the disease. They were each gifted a rose to recognize their strength. Reginia Foster is one such survivor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I was sitting on the porch, I happened to put my hand across my breast, and I found the lump,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Later, I found out it was cancer.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2024\/10\/11\/troy-utilities-provides-assistance-in-helene-aftermath\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>LOCAL NEWS: Troy Utilities provides assistance in Helene aftermath<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Foster was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer at the age of 44. After a mastectomy and several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, she is now cancer-free. She said the disease doesn\u2019t define her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;My breasts didn&#8217;t make me,&#8221; she said. &#8220;So, therefore, take it off. As a matter of fact, take both of them off.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said it\u2019s important for everyone to be mindful and celebrate those who fight breast cancer every day. Positivity, she said, is what carried her through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;You&#8217;re automatically going to think, &#8216;Why me?&#8217; but I began to say, &#8216;Why not me?'&#8221; Foster said. &#8220;Do I get down sometimes? Yes. But that right there, it just made me stronger and stronger, and I thank God for the person that I am.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Public Relations and Tourism Office urges everyone to prioritize their breast health and get checked regularly.
