Troy, Ala (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Thursday night Troy Soccer<\/a> played host to the Texas State Bobcats, but unfortunately that match did not end the way the Trojans hoped it would.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a highly contested first half that saw both teams put the ball in the back of the net, Texas State scored an 82nd<\/sup> minute goal to give the Bobcats a 2-1 win against the Trojans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI thought we battled against a team that\u2019s top of the conference on our side of the division,\u201d said head coach Stuart Gore<\/a>. \u201cI think we went toe-to-toe and got a deserving goal.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal that put the Trojans level with the Bobcats was none other than an “Olimpico” goal, also known as a goal straight from a corner kick.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Dolce<\/a>\u2019s [Dolce Villaflor] got it in her locker,\u201d Gore said. \u201cWe\u2019re normally good of set pieces so sometimes teams are waiting for Delaney Wells to come to the back post and head it.\u00a0I think the goalkeeper jumped out too early and she obviously helps it in.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That goal also ended a four match goalless streak for the Trojans, which happened to be their longest slump since 2009.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s great that we broke our goal drought,\u201d said Gore.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the 2-1 final score did not come without controversy as a bobcat defender made a dangerous tackle on Trojan forward Tatum Tishler that, if called, would have awarded the Trojans with a penalty kick and a chance to level the match.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t see the ball move, so I think it was a foul on Tatum,\u201d said Gore. \u201cI\u2019m gonna go back and watch it.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another controversy in the match came when goalkeeper Une Georgsen<\/a> suffered a blow that forced her to leave the match in the first half while the Bobcat was only shown a yellow card.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s probably a concussion,\u201d said Gore. \u201cThe medical team will look at her tomorrow and see how she feels. The girl didn\u2019t really try to make a play on the ball, and I think the referee has got to do a better job at protecting Une.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
