TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 As students begin to be off on their own, saving money can be a bit of an hassle. That’s why Troy University’s Alpha Kappa Alpha<\/a> (AKA) sorority hosted Let’s Talk About Savings Night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday night, students learned ways to save money as well as how to better themselves financially. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This event was basically, to let students come and talk, and listen to our speaker, Melanie Robinson, came and gave students and the Mu Alpha Chapter a very good encouraging word and just tips on financial literacy,” said sorority member Caitlin Thomas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thomas hopes participants learned something valuable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I think its very important, because we all have to grow up one day, we all have to get older, we’re going to be out on our own, knowing how to handle business on your own, and what to do is very important,” Thomas explained. “I am really hoping they came out and really just got tip on saving, and budgeting because we are all working very hard, we’re all here to get a degree.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oftentimes college students have to pay for textbooks and unexpected costs. Although many students have jobs while in college, it’s not always enough. This event aimed to help students find ways to balance their budgets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s very hard out there for some, people can juggle getting a job and working, and in class, so people can’t and just so vary some tips on how to save, budget, can make life a little bit easier,” Thomas told TrojanVision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event was part of AKA’s “Skee-Week.” The sorority’s next event will be a Breast Cancer walk Saturday, Oct. 26. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
