(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>)  \u2014 Saturday, Troy University&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/troyakas\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alpha Kappa Alpha<\/a> sorority hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness walk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students and community members were invited to the quad to show support for those who are battling the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;It&#8217;s super important that we&#8217;re spreading awareness about breast cancer,&#8221; said Madison Mcelrath, a Alpha Kappa Alpha member. &#8220;We decided to host this event to get students out in order to learn more about breast cancer and how important it is to be able to catch it before it&#8217;s too late.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Breast cancer survivor Regina Foster encourages everyone to check for the warning signs of the sickness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2024\/10\/17\/city-of-troy-honors-breast-cancer-survivors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH: City of Troy honors breast cancer survivors<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Breast cancer does not discriminate against anyone,&#8221; said Foster. &#8220;You could be male, female, black, white, big, tall. It does not matter. Just check yourself. If you feel something that doesn&#8217;t feel right, go get it checked out.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha and Foster both say faith plays a huge role in the fight against breast cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Faith is everything for me,&#8221; Foster said. &#8220;I feel as if I didn&#8217;t have faith, I don&#8217;t think I could have went through the journey as strong as I did.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;My relationship with Jesus Christ is super strong,&#8221; Mcelrath said. &#8220;I would tell anyone struggling with breast cancer to keep faith and keep pushing.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alpha Kappa Alpha&#8217;s breast cancer awareness walk marks the end of the group&#8217;s annual &#8220;Skee Week.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uspreventiveservicestaskforce.org\/uspstf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">United States Preventive Services Task Force<\/a> recommends that all women begin getting screened for breast cancer at age 40. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
