TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 It’s that time of year again when spooky festivities are in full swing for many Troy University students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Troy Rubicon<\/a> partnered with the Troy Environmental Club<\/a> to bring some Halloween spirit to students Monday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I think it comes down to community and getting people together in one place with a common interest to be able to express that interest and get to know each other and also promoting the Rubicon, gaining submissions,” said Abbie Anderson, assistant editor-in-chief of the Rubicon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Halloween Social celebrated the holiday with scary decorations, food and games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the activities and decorations brought fun to the students, Halloween means much more than just spooks and scares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CAMPUS COVERAGE: Students paint over 300 pumpkins during annual fall event<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It shows like great sense of unity in the community,” said Environmental Club member James McClure. “It shows that people will come together and enjoy the other’s presence and enjoy a time-honored tradition. I think pumpkin carving, too, just shows the appreciation for the environment that we’re using its produce to come together in a way that is for the most part safe and environmentally friendly.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carving is not the only fun thing you can do with a pumpkin. You can paint them and even eat them, just make sure you take out the insides first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Halloween is a beloved holiday throughout the United States, but it is not celebrated in every country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“So in Bangladesh, in our home country, we don’t actually celebrate Halloween,” said international student Adnan Binmhab. “This is actually my first time coming here and celebrating all of the things. For me, it’s actually a great experience talking to other people, seeing new kinds of things, people decorating their faces.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The night ended with the best costumes contest where students got to win door prizes ending a night full of fun, friends and scares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
