TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Troy University has multiple dorms on its campus, however, Matthew Downer Pace Hall<\/a> differs from other dorms because of what it has on its first floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to housing students, Pace provides resources for students who aren’t English proficient. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s also a space where we teach English as a second language,” said Dean of International Student Services Maria Frigge. ” It has classrooms and offices of the teachers for the ESL Program. It also has a couple different rooms that are for students. There’s a prayer room for our Muslim students and a social room.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of Pace Hall’s resident are international students. The building’s first floor ensures those students have a place to learn more about the United States and American culture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“All students have to be English proficient before they come but this gives them an opportunity to come before their English proficient and then move to their academic classes,” Frigge said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because it is home to so many cultures, residents are given extra instruction about cleanliness. For Example, room cleanliness flyers are posted all over to help residents understand dorm expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Since they come from different cultures, they have different ways of cooking and dispensing food after they cook,” Frigge said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pace Hall is named after Matthew Downer Pace who used to be the president of Troy State Teacher’s College.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
