ELBA, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Troy University’s Small Business Development Center<\/a> (SBDC) is working to support yet another group of local business owners, this time in the city of Elba<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday the SBDC celebrated SBDC Day in Elba when Mayor Tom Maddox proclaimed the day as SBDC Day in Elba. The event also encouraged local entrepreneurs to join forces with the SBDC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Having a business adviser made an impact in our region and for our businesses located in Coffee County,” said SBDC Director Juliana Bolivar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Elba<\/a> is home to just over 3,500 residents. Although that number may seem small, Elba Chamber of Commerce President Sandy Bynum said the city’s occupancy rate sits at 84%, which according to Bynum, means there is plenty of space for entrepreneurs looking to grow their business. Bynum also said there is a large number of people looking to start a business but who need guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have so many people who have a dream, and they come in and they want to start a business, but they don’t know what they need to do,” Bynum said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s where the SBDC steps in. Through the city and center’s partnership business owners can receive advice ranging from growth and expansion strategies to business training. They would also join a long line of previous SBDC clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We supported more more than 500 jobs,” Bolivar told TrojanVision. “We helped the injection of more than half million dollars in capital.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to SBDC resources, Elba leaders believe the town and its residents offer new entrepreneurs support they may not find anywhere else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“People support one another,” Bynum explained. “We always try to shop in Elba first, and that’s something we encourage, but I think those relationships are our greatest asset.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SBDC Day ended with a roundtable discussion between business owners, community leaders, and the SBDC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
