If so, that&#8217;s what Troy-Pike Habitat for Humanity is asking for in order to participate in its March Madness tournament, a tournament that&#8217;s carrying a message deeper than basketball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We wanted to do a can drive so that people wouldn&#8217;t have to pay and then all the cans will be going to the civic service office, said Fundraising Vice Chair Stephanie Fletcher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Multiple campus organizations had a hand in pulling the event together, but the original idea came from excitement from the NCAA&#8217;s March Madness Tourney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Something that would start the spring semester off after spring break and thought March Madness, why not? Tournament, basketball,&#8221; said Troy Habitat for Humanity chapter President Addonia Chambers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The cost to get in the game is two canned goods so hopefully we have a big turnout and a lot of people show up because if a lot of people show up we raise a lot of canned goods,&#8221; added Troy 101 E.L.I.T.E member Trent Desue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2025\/03\/28\/pickleball-tournament-brings-students-together-for-a-fun-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>NEWS FOR YOU: Pickleball tournament brings students together for a fun time<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although all the organizations that were involved played for the right to call themselves tournament champions, there was a larger lesson looming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Open the door for more collaboration amongst organizations because we are all &#8220;ONE Troy&#8221; as we all say all the time, so this is for inspiration on how to do things together,&#8221; said Fletcher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the end only one team was left standing, Team Run It Up after beating Team SBG 51-36.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Habitat for Humanity, 54 cans were donated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
