(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/troyparksandrecreation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Troy\u2019s Parks and Recreation Center<\/a> is still recovering from tornado damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What was meant to be a safe place unexpectedly turned into a front-row seat for people seeking refuge from the storm. As the storm raged outside, rec center staff had to act quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was here probably 15 minutes after it happened really,&#8221; said Facility Coordinator Dalton Fuller. &#8220;People were shaken up, I think, a little bit, but nobody was running around crazy. Dan [Smith] and the staff did a great job having everybody in the locker rooms when it happened, so like, no matter what, people were safe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the storm moved past, staff members got their first look at the damage. Adult Sports Coordinator Brian Meadows was one of the first people to see the damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDavid Dickie, Dalton, and I went to the fields to kind of see exactly how bad everything was. That\u2019s when we noticed a lot of the light poles down, Scoreboards, fences, it was pretty tragic as far as we are concerned because, without our fields, you know we\u2019re in trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2025\/04\/01\/residents-describe-moment-when-ef2-tornado-passed-over-their-homes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>RELATED NEWS: Residents describe moment when EF2 tornado passed over their homes<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, nearly two weeks later, the recreation center team now is in full recovery mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe just have last night got the approval to start the cleanup process,\u201d Meadows explained. &#8220;Now we\u2019re going to spend the next couple days picking everything up, then we\u2019ll start kind of assessing everything that we need and start the process over.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Health and Wellness Center and multipurpose rooms are available for use, but the center\u2019s two pools, gymnasium, and over half the sports plex remain closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To stay up to date on the center\u2019s recovery efforts and to see what\u2019s available for use you can follow their Facebook at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/troyparksandrecreation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Troy Parks and Recreation.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
