TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Troy University has debuted its new Health Sciences building, Jones Hall<\/a>, which is meant to help better prepare students for post-graduation work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The building is filled with state-of-the-art technology that includes nursing simulation labs and bays that feature 30 hospital beds, an applied physiology lab, and a sports science lab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have a great deal of more space, high fidelity mannequins, virtual reality capability, and more labs,” said Dr. LaGary Carter, Dean of the College of Health Sciences. “It’s actually a 180 degree swing as to where we were, so we are extremely proud, and we look forward to the future, not only to enhance our students but facility research.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking of space, the new building also features a 150-seat theater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’ll allow us to have more students in each class,” said Dr. Brandon Sluder, Director of Physiology and Health Promotion. “More students will be on task because there is more equipment, more students can be utilizing those and get more practice because of it.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now that equipment has been moved in, students have already started getting hands-on experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The new dummies, beds, and hospital equipment we are around really trains you to for when you do go into the hospital setting,” said junior Emily Snyder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This lab especially has helped us so much with the hands-on learning aspect,” said Emily Snyder, a junior in nursing at Troy. “It’s more updated, more modern, more what you’ll see in real life, so you won’t be like ‘Oh, I haven’t seen this before.’ Instead, you’ll say ‘I’ve seen this before,’ so it really helps give you so much more experience.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the new building now open, university leaders hope Jones Hall will help nurses continue their education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This just kicks us into overdrive,” Carter told TrojanVision. “This is a way for us to take it to another level as far as to be able to recruit students, retain students, and prepare students for the workforce.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jones Hall is named after Troy University alumnus, Billy Jones. Jones is President of Crowne Management, LLC, which operates 17 nursing homes in Alabama, from Mobile to Huntsville, along with assisted living and therapy facilities, a home health care and hospice service. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
