TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 A career fair was held on Troy\u2019s campus to help students network and take steps toward internships and a career in journalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hall school of Journalism and Communication (HSJC) hosted the career fair where stations from around the state came to meet Troy students. Attendees had the opportunity to discuss a future career in broadcast and multimedia journalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI like that it provided me with so many connections and the ability to get excited about my future,” student Abbie Ricks said. \u201cIt allowed a lot of employers to give me advice, and they gave me a lot of encouragement and just good advice about where I should go next.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WSFA 12<\/a> News Director Desmond Wingard, a Troy University alumnus, makes it a point to visit the university every few months in order to meet students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There\u2019s been a couple of students that I\u2019ve met today that I met previously, and I caught up with again today that have taken some of the advice that I\u2019ve given them and utilized it to better themselves as far as working on their resume tape, and working on improving their stories.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Wingard, the best thing students can do to increase their chances of getting a job quickly post-college is to start getting experience while in school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe number one piece of advice that I\u2019ve given every student I\u2019ve talked to today that is not involved in TrojanVision is just being involved in TrojanVision. Back when I was here in the early 2000s, it was the reason that I got a job. It\u2019s one hundred percent because of everything that I learned at the university journalism school and TrojanVision.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The HSJC’s website<\/a> boasts that “the Radio-Television Digital News Association named Troy University as having the 6th Best Journalism Program in the Country.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
