(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 As tensions remain over President Trump&#8217;s tariffs, some experts are predicting long-term price increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re going to have a situation where ultimately consumers will be impacted, and they\u2019ll typically be negatively impacted,&#8221; Troy University economics professor Dr. John Dove said. &#8220;Because there are a lot of domestic producers that rely on the international supply chain to provide low-cost goods remain globally competitive, when it becomes more expensive for those domestic producers to import those goods, then ultimately, they\u2019ll have to pass at least some of those costs onto consumers.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dove believes China&#8217;s retaliatory tariff on the United States is what led to the current pause on tariffs by the Trump administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201dI don\u2019t think that the current tariffs that we have imposed on China and the tariffs that China imposes in the U.S. are sustainable in the long run. I think there\u2019s going to be a lot of intense negotiation over that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We\u2019ve seen your president trump kind of walk back some of these tariffs at least temporarily, possibly permanently, and you know part of that is just, again like I said, you know, due to kind of the market reactions that we\u2019ve seen.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2025\/04\/23\/what-do-troy-students-think-about-tariffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>RELATED NEWS: Tariffs cause mixed reactions among students<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the tariffs do persist after the pause, Dove expects a ripple effect that could eventually negatively impact Troy University students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019ll get to a point where when students go in and then do their normal shopping at Walmart, they will start to see higher consumer prices. I\u2019ve already seen some auto manufacturers begin to increase the price that they\u2019re charging for the car, so we\u2019re slowly starting to see these things develop.
