TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Shady Oaks looks like your typical apartment complex, but Sunday night it was turned into a crime scene. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Behind the building, gun shots were fired at 8:52 p.m., prompting residents and nearby Troy students to shelter in place and call authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s just crazy,” said resident Benjamin Davis. “You never think something like that is going to happen that close to you.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I felt a little scared inside, it was a very subtle feeling,” said resident Nicholas Wright. “It was all so sudden, I didn’t know where it was coming from. My best reaction was to duck down under my counter just to get somewhere safe.”<\/p>\n\n\n

While some students may be afraid due to the shooting, Troy Police<\/a> Chief Danny Barron says students are not in danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have no reason to believe that our students are in danger in any way,” Barron said. “If we felt like they were in danger, we would certainly let them know. This shooting happened at a location that other criminal activity has happened in the past that may have been related to that. The students on campus are not in any danger.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While no injuries or fatalities resulted from Sunday night’s shooting, Barron advises students to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“However, I will say we live in a time where you have to be cautious where you go,” Barron said. “Any time they feel unsafe or they see something, please say something, even if you think it’s small. Pick up the phone and call us.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
